Gislingham Parish Plan

This logo was designed by Charlotte W and was selected following a competition in the village. What is a Parish Plan ? Its an opportunity for all those who live or work in the community to have a say in the planning of a sustainable future; and it represents their views and opinions on economic recreational, environmental and development issues in the Village. Why do it ? The Parish Plan can be used as a tool to influence the relevant Local Authorities and other Agencies. To enhance funding opportunities for identified projects eg. Community facilities; and to allow everyone to contribute their ideas and be involved in the future of the community.

How do we do it ?

Following preliminary open consultation events the Steering Committee prepare an in-depth questionnaire to include those issues raised, which is to be delivered to, and collected from, all homes in the village, covering all ages above 8 years. The anonymous replies are analysed to identify the needs, issues and concerns of the community. The views of the other village stakeholders ie Businesses; Clubs; Voluntary organisations and Local Authorities are also sought.

Following final analysis a prioritised action plan with costings and funding opportunities is produced which is then lodged with County and District Councils and other relevant organisations who may previously have been making decisions about our village without our input.

In October 2009 a public meeting was held in the Gislingham Village Hall to discuss the idea of a Parish Plan and to see who might be willing to help produce it. There was a favourable response to the idea from those present, and a number of people, not part of the Parish Council, offered their assistance. At an initial meeting of those interested on 26th October, a Parish Plan Group (steering committee) was formed.

Since then the residents' group has had regular meetings and carried out a number of information gathering events in March. In due course the results of these events will feed into a questionaire that will be delivered to everyone in the village, enabling everyone to have a say in the future of their village.

Update: The Gislingham Parish Plan Committee is pleased to announce that the application for a National Lottery 'Awards 4 All' was successful, and that Gislingham has been awarded £4,667.00 towards this project. Additional money has also been contributed by the Parish Council, Mid Suffolk District Council and from the locality budget of County Councillor Charles Michell. Many thanks to all!

How you can get involved

The Parish Plan Group are grateful to all those who attended the Information Gathering Events at the Village Hall and Primary School, and also to Charlotte who won the competition to design the Gislingham Parish Plan Logo.
